Shoe maker Nike is releasing shoes that can lace themselves later this year. The tightness of the laces can be manually adjusted, but after a couple of wears the shoes will automatically adapt to your preferred tightness. Google has launched a pilot program that is allowing people to make purchases at traditional brick and mortar stores without the need of taking cash, a credit card, or even your phone out of your pocket. The system automatically sends a picture of your face to the cashier from your phone after you enter the store. The cashier verifies that the person in the picture is you, asks you what your initials are, and the money is automatically deducted from whatever account you have set up to make the purchase. While this presents fantastic opportunities to achieve advances in medicine and many other scientific fields, it also presents challenges as the world societies and governments react to it. A computer scientist at Rice University addressed the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington to talk about his concerns. A robotics team from Belgium is developing a personal flying robot to sell to the public. It can hover at human height and move at normal human walking speed making it ideal as a companion. Safety features were of top priority in its design so that people and animals bumping into it would gently bounce off. See this new personal flying robot for yourself here.

Online retailer Amazon has unveiled a prototype for an aerial robot that can deliver packages weighing up to 5 pounds to your home. It has the ability to land and takeoff similar to a helicopter. You can learn more here.

We have just ordered a third printing of the Player's Guide thanks to the continuing demand for The Future Belongs To Us RPG! Penny Arcade had Infinity write a guest column for the Penny Arcade Report detailing the design philosophy of the DiceLight system.
